Recaro wins DIN Prize in the Best Practice category
Aircraft seat manufacturer receives coveted award
“We achieved the objective of developing a new measurement strategy and establishing new dimensioning for all the safetyrelated parts of our seats. This is a valuable milestone on our way towards further reducing the rejection rate in our production and enhancing quality. The DIN Prize honors our innovative solutions aimed at saving time and costs,” says Mirjam Bruhns, Director Quality and Process Management at Recaro Aircraft Seating.
The DIN Prize is awarded to projects in the Best Practice category that successfully integrate standards into operational processes and workflows. The standards for geometrical product specification and testing define an internationally uniform symbolic language. Tolerances in technical drawings are clearly defined and fully described. This makes it possible to avoid ambiguities and inconsistencies when planning production and test procedures – while reducing the time required to clarify matters with other departments.
“Recaro introduced the ISO GPS standards, established new functional dimensioning of sheet metal profile joints, and defined the use of geometrical tolerances. Our employees and selected suppliers were introduced to the new system. The goal is to use the new GPS system for all components,” explains Johannes Mainhardt, Team Leader Quality Measurement at Recaro.
For 16 years, the DIN Prize has honored innovative solutions in four different categories. An independent jury of experts from science, research and practice selects the winners. DIN honored the 2016 award winners during the “Weltfaktor Normung” ceremony in the presence of close to 300 guests in Berlin.
