Chancellor Merkel visits Recaro
Recaro Aircraft Seating receives VIP guest at its trade fair stand during ILA Berlin Air Show 2012
At the Recaro Aircraft Seating stand, Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel had the opportunity to experience the innovations in aircraft seating. Of particular interest was the very successful BL3520 model – one of the product highlights of the Recaro stand. The company has already received orders for approximately 120,000 units of this popular model, ever since its market launch in late 2010.
The seat which received the “red dot award” in 2012 has won customers around the world with its combination of lightweight design, great comfort and space savings. “One seat weighs less than eleven kilograms – thirty percent less than comparable models”, explains Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer of Recaro Aircraft Seating. “In this way, the BL3520 contributes to improved fuel economy and a reduction in the aircraft’s CO2 emissions.” Furthermore the BL3520 offers passengers more living space than comparable products. This is possible thanks to a leaner, space-saving backrest combined with patented Recaro solutions including a high literature pocket. Instead of being placed in the passenger’s knee area, it is located above the tray table which ensures an outstanding level of passenger comfort. Airlines can install additional rows of seats and still offer more legroom, which has a positive effect on their profit.

Seats from Recaro Aircraft Seating are also used in aircraft belonging to the Federal Government of Germany, with the company delivering seats in the past year for two VIP planes of the type Airbus 340. “The economy class features our CL3510 seats, which were specially developed by Recaro Aircraft Seating for long-distance flights”, says Chief Sales Officer Andreas Lindemann. “This model offers superior comfort to the passenger while also allowing more living space, thanks to its lean backrest.” In the business class CL6510 seats were installed, which can be extended into a two-meter bed at the touch of a button.
